Our History

About BBBCBulldogs Battling Breast Cancer was founded by Jay and Teresa Abbott after Teresa’s 18 month fight against Breast Cancer. In October 2003, Teresa was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Stage 3 Breast Cancer. After months of surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, she was pronounced cancer free. During this time, their youngest son, Chris was playing football at the University of Georgia. After Teresa’s clean bill of health, the entire Abbott family decided they wanted to do something to help fight this horrible disease and give back for all the blessings and support they received during the previous 18 months. With the help of UGA Football Coach Mark Richt and the UGA Football Team, the following summer, the 1st Annual Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer Charity Golf Tournament was organized and Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer was born.

Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer goal is to fight Breast Cancer through early detection and assistance to women in need who may not have the resources to get the services they need to fight this disease.

A Word From Our Beneficiary, St. Mary’s

“The Abbott family is passionate about making a difference for women battling breast cancer and they spend countless hours planning and executing this annual event. It is truly a labor of love, dedication, and the best-run tournament we have had the pleasure of attending. Since St. Mary’s became the beneficiary of this event in 2009, Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer has donated over $1,000,000 to St. Mary’s for our breast health imaging program.”

About BBBC“We are most grateful to the Abbott’s for their support. Their funding supported the purchase of two digital mammography machines for St. Mary’s Women’s Imaging Center. Digital mammography is credited in catching cancers early and in those women who are most at risk. It has provided for free mammography testing for women in need and purchase of needed supplies, such as drain bags. Proceeds from the tournaments ensures St. Mary’s can continue to provide breast health services to women in need.”

“The efforts of Jay and Teresa Abbott and Bulldogs Battling Breast Cancer truly makes a difference for the women of Northeast Georgia.”

“Can never thank you enough for your tireless effort in this Battle against Breast Cancer. You are loved and appreciated more than you know. Please know I hold you close in my Heart and pray for you to continue to have the strength that you need.”
